Beirut - More Info

Beirut is Edinburgh’s first Lebanese restaurant, offering an authentic, exotic taste sensation, slap-bang in the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town (just off Nicolson Street, close to the Uni/Festival Theatre/Grassmarket).  With Lebanese ingredients sourced from specialist suppliers in London, and all dishes freshly home-made, this is the closest you’ll get to Beirut itself without a good few hours travelling by aeroplane. No wonder they are a favourite with the city’s small Lebanese community, no wonder their band of loyal, non-Lebanese customers is ever growing.  For anyone unfamiliar, Lebanese food is similar to other Mediterranean cuisines, featuring staples like lamb, chicken, fresh seafood, aubergine, chickpeas and okra. Flavours come from the char-grill, from chilli, sesame, garlic, olive oil, coriander and lemon juice.  If you are new to Lebanese cuisine then don’t worry, with a trip to Beirut you’re in for a treat.

What you can expect to eat:

  • Charcoal-grilled tender cubes of lamb with rice & sesame seed sauce.
  • Charcoal-grilled boneless baby chicken with Lebanese bread & garlic sauce.
  • Moussaka - fried aubergines baked with tomatoes, onion, chickpeas, garlic & peppers.
  • Okra stew with lamb in a tomato sauce with onion, garlic & coriander.
  • Flaked fish fillets on flavoured rice with sesame seed sauce, topped with fried onions & nuts.
  • Sweet-fried Lebanese dough stuffed with clotted cream, sprinkled with finely crushed pistachios.
